Investigation Records Review Checklist: Organize Received, Reviewed and Outstanding Material

An investigation records review checklist helps distinguish records that have been requested, received and actually reviewed.

Confirm coverage

Identify the source, requested date range or subject, what was received and whether the response appears complete for the request.

Track review status

Record reviewer, review date and status so received-but-unreviewed material remains visible.

Capture material information

Move significant dates, source conflicts, new contacts and leads into their appropriate case records while retaining the originating document reference.

Identify outstanding material

Partial responses and missing records should create explicit follow-up rather than disappearing after an initial response.
