Some investigation work cannot be completed immediately because it depends on a response, record, interview or other external event. A pending-items tracker keeps those waiting items visible.
Useful pending-item fields
Consider item ID, item type, description, waiting on, date requested, last follow-up date, target review date, owner and status.
Waiting does not mean inactive
Record the last follow-up and next review date so pending items do not disappear simply because another party must respond.
Separate pending from completed
When the response arrives, record the outcome and move any resulting work into the appropriate lead, source or action record.
Review aging items
Regular review can surface requests that need another follow-up or a documented disposition.
