An investigation open-items list provides a focused view of everything that still needs attention. It can complement detailed lead, action and source logs by surfacing unfinished work in one place.
What counts as an open item?
Examples include unresolved leads, pending records requests, interviews not yet completed, unanswered source conflicts, overdue tasks and questions awaiting review.
Useful fields
Consider item ID, type, description, owner, opened date, target date, status, dependency and next action.
Do not duplicate the entire case record
Reference the underlying lead, request, interview or issue rather than copying all of its detail into the open-items list.
Close items with outcomes
When work is completed, retain a completion date and outcome so the history remains reviewable.
