Some case questions are broader than a single lead or task. An investigation issue tracker provides a structured place for unresolved questions, information conflicts and topics that require several pieces of follow-up.
Useful issue-tracker fields
Consider issue ID, issue or question, related sources, related leads, owner, status, next action, target review date and resolution note.
Keep questions neutral
Phrase the issue as something to resolve rather than as an assumed conclusion. This makes it easier to record information that supports more than one explanation.
Link issues to the case record
Reference the relevant timeline entries, sources, interviews and leads instead of duplicating them inside the issue tracker.
Close issues with a record
When an issue is resolved, preserve the resolution and the information supporting it rather than deleting the issue.
Use the free CaseWorks Investigation Timeline Template for chronology or the Case Management System for integrated tracking.
