An investigation interview summary should make the information obtained during an interview easier to review without disconnecting it from the rest of the case record.
Useful summary sections
Consider interview date, participant or role, purpose, topics covered, material dates, records referenced, key information, unresolved questions and resulting follow-up.
Keep summary and source context connected
Identify who provided the information and preserve enough context to locate the underlying interview documentation.
Move dates into the chronology
Material dates identified during an interview should be added to the case timeline with the interview as the source when appropriate.
Create follow-up records
New contacts, documents or questions should become trackable leads or actions rather than remaining only in the summary.
