An investigation handover provides the receiving person with a concise map of the current case while preserving links to the detailed records behind it.
Useful handover sections
Consider case identifier, scope, current status, key chronology, important source references, completed interviews, open leads, pending records, upcoming deadlines and next actions.
Highlight unfinished work
Separate completed work from waiting, overdue and unresolved items so the receiving person can quickly identify priorities.
Preserve context
Reference the underlying lead, source, interview or action rather than attempting to reproduce the full case file in the handover.
Date the handover
A dated status snapshot makes it clear when the information was current.
