Investigation Follow-Up Log Template: Keep Open Tasks and Next Actions Visible

Follow-up is where many case files become difficult to manage. An investigation follow-up log makes pending work visible instead of leaving next steps scattered across notes and messages.

Track the next action

Record the task, related case issue, owner, date assigned, target date, status and outcome.

Use specific task descriptions

“Follow up” is difficult to review. “Request the identified record” or “recontact source about date discrepancy” makes the next step clearer.

Keep waiting items visible

A request awaiting a response is still open work. Use a waiting status and retain the date of the last action.

Close tasks with outcomes

Do not simply delete completed follow-up. Record the completion date and outcome so later reviewers can see what happened.
