An investigation communication log records case-related calls, emails, messages and other contacts in one chronological index. It is useful for understanding who communicated, when, by what method, what the contact concerned and what action resulted.
For formal letters, written requests, responses and due dates, use the Investigation Correspondence Log guide.

Communication log vs. correspondence log
A communication log is broad: it can index calls, emails, messages, meetings and other case contacts. A correspondence log is narrower and is especially useful for formal written requests, incoming/outgoing correspondence, response status and deadlines.
Reference rather than duplicate
When an email, message or other record is stored elsewhere, use an authorized stable reference so the log points back to the underlying record. This keeps the communication index concise and reduces conflicting duplicate notes.
Record outcomes, not just contacts
A useful communication entry identifies what resulted from the contact. If nothing was resolved, record that outcome and any next attempt or review date that is needed.
Move resulting work into the right tracker
If a communication creates a lead, records request, interview, source or action, reference the communication and move the unresolved work into the dedicated tracker. The communication log preserves history; the tracker keeps future work visible.

Is a communication log the same as a correspondence log?
